Our History
We started boarding dogs and cats in 1950 when we boarded a few pets
at our farm while friends went on vacation. When the word got out,
it quickly became necessary to build facilities for boarding and so
Allen's Kennel was born.
Since our beginning, we have grown to over 100 dog kennels and 25 cat
spaces. We have added facilities that are heated and air-conditioned.
We offer complete grooming services and even
offer grooming to boarded animals 7 days a week so that dogs can be groomed
on the day they are leaving the kennel.
When most kennels were only open to drop off and pick up pets 5 days
a week, we have always had office hours 7 days a week to accommodate
our customers' schedules. Most other kennels have since followed suit,
but not until a few called us and complained that we were making life
difficult for them, because they choose not to open 7 days a week.
We have a greatly experienced staff. Most, especially the full-time staff,
either show dogs, train dogs, or compete with their dogs in some way.
Many have been involved heavily with dogs during all of their adult life.
Dottie Allen,
president of Allen's Kennel has been involved in the
kennel business for over 40 years. She has been very active in most
facets of the dog world. Her resume includes: 4-H Dog Club Leader,
and the offices of President, Secretary, or Treasurer in virtually
every dog club to which she belongs. Those clubs include:
Burlington County Kennel Club (BCKC),
Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen Club of America (PBGVCA),
Mid NJ PBGV Association (MNJPBGVA),
Central NJ Hound Association (CNJHA),
and Southern NJ Agility Club (SoJAC).
Allen's kennel has recently added a heated & air conditioned dog
training building that is fully matted.
We offer obedience, show handling, and agility classes year round.
Our instructional staff is experienced and current. All of our
classes are taught with motivational methods
which make the dog enjoy the training experience and keep dogs and
handlers moving forward together in a positive format.
